Car hits woman being chased by pit bull

VINELAND -- A 70-year-old woman was hit by a car as she ran from a stray pit bull chasing her Friday evening.
Marva L. Tiller was walking her dog, Precious, at 10:30 p.m. on the north side of West Chestnut Avenue, heading toward her Melrose Street home, when a large, brown pit bull began running at her from one of the houses, according to police.
Tiller ran into the street and was knocked down by the passenger mirror of a Hyundai Elantra driven by a Landisville man.
The driver stopped to help the woman, police said. He was not cited in the collision.
The woman said she did not realize she was in the road until she was hit, according to a police report. She was taken to South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center and treated for bruises and bleeding to the right side of her head, and cuts to her right arm, police said.
Investigating police went to the house where the woman said she saw the dog.
The homeowner said she had two brown boxers, but they were inside at the time of the accident.
