Pit bull attacks 69yo woman

The Shire of Northam has urged dog owners to take more responsibility for their pets’ actions or face stiff penalties.
A 69-year-old woman is nursing bites to her ankles and hands after a pit bull terrier attacked her while she walked her two dogs in Northam yesterday morning.
Shire president Steven Pollard says the attack is still under investigation but it is believed the animal ran out from a property on Gordon Street.
He says dog owners need to ensure their pets are housed securely.
“I think most people are pretty good when they take their dogs out into the streets and parks and use leads and so on, but it’s an issue for us where dogs are kept at home and sometimes the fencing that’s involved to try and keep those dogs in the backyard or whatever may not be as good as it needs to be,” he said.
