Senior Pit Bull Receives Award For Community Service

Young dogs everywhere should consider looking to Sarge the Pit Bull as a role model. The 15.5 year old rescued “elderbull” is a certified therapy dog that works endlessly with his owners – Kim and Thad, to be the best spokesdog he can be! He makes visits to nursing homes and rehab facilities – he’s a humane educator and has even visited libraries where he was read to by children! Sarge lives a very busy life (you should see his facebook page!) and pretty soon we’ll be bringing you a full-length interview with his guardians that will tell you all about this outstanding pup.
Today was an extra special day for Sarge! We have some photos of him receiving an Achievement Award from the Animal Farm Foundation and Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia for his work as a therapy dog and humane educator in the Philadelphia community. The ceremony took place during an event called “Super Adoption Day” which featured more than 60 rescue groups, shelters, and pet-related vendors, along with live music.
Sarge’s award was presented by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. He was joined on stage by Hector, a Pit Bull that was rescued from Michael Vick’s “Bad Newz Kennels” and who is now a humane educator.
