COUPLE CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY FACES NEW CHARGES

By Anita Bathe, C-FAX 1070

A NORTH SAANICH COUPLE IS FACING MORE CHARGES AFTER BREACHING THE CONDITIONS OF A PREVIOUS SENTENCE ON ANIMAL CRUELTY.

SAM JOE AND THELMA DAVID WERE BANNED IN 2008 FROM KEEPING ANIMALS--THEY PLEAD GUILTY TO SEVERELY NEGLECTING 12 PITBULLS IN THEIR CARE.

THE PUPPIES WERE SEIZED IN 2007 BY THE SPCA BECAUSE THEY WERE DEPRIVED OF FOOD AND WATER AND WERE CHAINED TO TIRES AND CARS.

SPCA CONSTABLE ERIKA PAUL SAYS THEIR SENTENCING INCLUDED A TWO YEAR BAN ON HAVING CUSTODY OF ANIMALS.

SHE SAYS A WITNESS OBSERVED THE BREACH AND AFTER INVESTIGATING RCMP FOUND A NUMBER OF YOUNG PITBULLS IN THE HOME.

THE NEW CHARGES LAID ARE FOR BREAKING THE CONDITIONS OF THEIR 2008 SENTENCE.
