A teenager snatched a puppy from a little girl at a Roseville park and took off with the puppy in a van that was waiting for him.
Roseville Police are trying to find a teenage boy who stole a puppy from an 8-year-old girl at Maidu Park Friday evening. The girl was playing with her German Shepherd and Pit Bull mix 10-week-old puppy. She had the puppy on a leash when the teenage boy approached the girl and asked if he could pet the puppy. He then unclipped the puppy from its leash, grabbed the dog and got into a waiting van that sped away towards Rocky Ridge Road, police said.
The suspect is described as a dark-complexioned male, 14 to 15 years old, 5' 8," with a chunky build. He had dark brown hair and was wearing an orange and white shirt and shorts. According to police, the boy was seen earlier with a group of about 5 other teenage boys. He got into a silver Dodge Caravan, which was a late 1990's or early 2000's model, with a sliding door.
Police said, the family was devastated by the theft of their puppy. The suspect is facing felony grand theft charges. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to call Roseville Crime Stoppers at 916-783-STOP.

Girl Pleads For Return Of Stolen Puppy
Roseville police said the brazen teen suspect snatched the 10-week-old German shepherd/pit bull mix on Friday night, as eight-year-old Angela German screamed for help.
The girl's father, Oleg German, was playing soccer close by and was startled by Angela's cries. He tried to chase down the suspect, but the young thief apparently had a getaway ready for him.
"The next thing I know I just saw her and she's screaming and freaking out," Oleg said. "I saw someone running toward the van, and the van was parked with the side door open."
The silver Dodge Caravan sped away from the scene.
Angela said the 14 or 15-year-old teen suspect asked to pet the dog, but then unclipped the leash and bolted with Rex in his arms.
"I was mad because he stole and took from a kid that's smaller than him," she said. "It's not fair."
Angela is afraid of what the suspect and the people she saw waiting in the van have planned for her puppy.
"I'm worried they could kill him," she said. If she were reunited with Rex, she said she "would hug him and make sure that doesn't happen anymore."
Neighbors have pitched in and offered to buy Angela a new puppy. Angela said she's happy, but still wants to bring Rex back home.
The suspect is described as about 14-15 years old, 5'8" tall, with a "chunky" build. He had dark brown hair and was wearing an orange and white shirt and shorts. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Roseville Crime Stoppers at (916) 783-STOP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Police: Stolen puppy back home; 2 arrested for theft
After following up on a citizen's tip, Roseville officers say they found a puppy who was stolen from an 8-year-old girl Friday and arrested two people in connection with the theft.
Roseville Police Lt. Mike Doane said the 10-week-old German shepherd/pit bull mix puppy has been reunited with its family after it was found on the 1200 block of Sheffiled Way around 11 p.m. Monday.
According to Doane, officers took a 13-year-old boy and Jean Merrill, 37, into custody. According to Doane, Merrill faces charges including grand theft, receiving stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Doane said the citizen tip was based on all the media coverage on the puppy, who was snatched from his owner Friday at a soccer arena by Maidu Regional Park.
At this time, no word on why the puppy was stolen.

Viewer Tip Reunites Stolen Puppy With Girl
Roseville Police got a tip late Monday night from a CBS13 viewer who had just seen eight-year-old Angela German talking about how Rex, her German shepherd/pit bull mix puppy, was taken from her.
Angela had been playing in Maidu Park on Friday evening in Roseville when a teen approached and asked to pet the leashed puppy. The teen allegedly unclipped the leash and ran away with Rex in his arms, jumping into a waiting van.
Neither Angela nor her father, who was playing soccer just a few feet away, could catch up to the suspects.
Angela tearfully pleaded for Rex's safe return, fearing for the puppy's safety and promising she "would hug him and make sure that doesn't happen anymore" if she ever saw him again.
Joan Keenan saw the story on the CBS13 News At 10 on Monday night and called her granddaughter, 16-year-old Megan Keenan, to come watch.
"And then Megan tells me, 'Oh, I think I know who has the dog,'" Joan said.
Megan said she had heard from a friend about the dog. "I was like, whoa, that's crazy. I know him," she said.
Joan urged Megan to call police, and within minutes of the story airing on television, Roseville police were acting on the information.
That tip led them to a house on the 1200 block of Sheffield Way. Officers found Rex and they arrested a 13-year-old male for the theft of the puppy.
Officers also arrested 37-year-old Jean Merrill for grand theft and receiving stolen property. Officers believe Merrill, who is not the teenager's mother, drove the teen to and from the park when the puppy was stolen and was aware of what the teen suspect had done.
Police brought Rex back to the family after midnight Tuesday morning, and the family stayed up late playing with the dog.
