Search scaled back for Santa Maria man who fell into Madera County creek

By Paula Lloyd, Fresno Bee

Madera and Fresno county sheriff's search-and-rescue teams scaled back their search Tuesday for the body of William Shade, 43, of Santa Maria, who fell into fast-moving water below Chiquito Creek Falls on Saturday.
Madera County Sheriff John Anderson said the search is hampered by deep water, rapids and the many pools and boulders that dot the creek. Deputies will continue to monitor the area and will resume the search when water conditions improve, he said.
Shade was on a camping trip with his daughter. He jumped into the water around 3 p.m. Saturday to rescue his pit bull puppy, but was submerged with the dog.
