Marshfield Considering Pitbull Ban

By John DesRivieres, WSAW

Marshfield already has a dangerous dog ordinance that allows police officers to order owners to muzzle their dogs while in public.
The City Administrator tells us city leaders are in the process of deciding what they legally can and can't do when it comes to banning a certain breed of dog.
The Executive Director of the Humane Society of Marathon County says the city should focus on holding dog owners liable for their dog's actions.
"What we need to focus on is banning the deed not the breed, we need to make owners more responsible, hold them accountable for the damages their dogs do", explains Mary Kirlin.
Kirlin says many mixed breeds and purebred dogs resemble Pitbulls and that will make it hard to enforce a ban on all Pitbull breeds.
