A police captain shot a pit bull dog that was attacking a party caterer Friday afternoon after his initial strategy—using a Taser to try to stop the dog from biting the woman—was unsuccessful. The 40-year-old victim told police she went to a Monroe Avenue address around 4 p.m. to retrieve a rented cotton candy machine, and thought it was safe to enter the yard because the dog was confined behind a fence. Once inside, the dog pushed a gate open and pinned the woman against the house while biting her in the leg.
Capt. David LeGault said he tried to stop the dog attack with his Taser, but it had no effect on the animal. After shooting it in the head with his department- issued weapon, the dog stopped its attack and hid nearby.
The woman was treated for minor puncture wounds in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. The dog was taken to a veterinarian but its condition was not known. The dog owners told police the victim ignored a “Keep Out” sign posted nearby. No charges were filed in the incident.
