Ohio Cops Find Home with 100 Pit Bulls, Guns, Drugs

From Officer.com

Jefferson County authorities initially converged on a home Friday afternoon as part of a drug investigation, but ended up finding an animal house at Sherman Bell’s home according to Sheriff Fred Abdalla.
"I've seen a lot, but this is one of the worst, the inside of that house certainly isn’t livable, I can tell you that," said Abdalla.
Humane officers counted more than 100 pit bulls at the home along County Road 23 near Bloomingdale. In addition they reported finding chickens, snakes wild boars and pet cockroaches. Abdalla said it appears many of the animals were neglected because waters bowls throughout the property for the animals were empty.
Abdalla said his biggest fear when he arrived at the scene was that the animals were being used in some sort of organized fighting. Bell said that isn’t the case. “I raise pit bulls, but they are not for fighting. That's why I'm so broke. If I sold them for fighting I'd have money." Bell went onto say that chickens are not used for fighting either.
Bell is in the Jefferson County Justice Center facing a slew of charges. His animals are being cared for by Humane officers, they will likely leave the animals on the property and care for them there, because there are just so many.
In additional to the large animal find the Jefferson County Drug Task Force reported finding 30 guns, sawed off shotguns, 80 marijuana plants and 20 grams of raw opium.

  1. Are you all choosing to ignore the fact that he was cultivating and had possesion of marajuana??? There are already so many misconceptions of Pitbulls and the fact that he was involved in drugs goes hand in hand with the bad rep Pitbulls get...if you are going to be a responsible Pitbull owner...LIVE RESPONSIBLY
The Humane Society had every right to come in once he was arrested...who the heck else was going to take care of them while he is in jail...common sense tells you The Humane Society was needed...All of you who are saying you knew him..were you going to go and feed and water all these dogs, every day, several times a day..for however long he was in jail?? Probably not...so authorities had to get involved..for the well-being of theses beautiful dogs..and if you had any heart for any animals this would make sense to you.
Maybe his intentions were sincere, but seriously...that many dogs could not of been regularly seen and checked by a vet to determine if they are healthy...they may look healthy, but no one knows what is going on inside their bodies...a vet who runs tests could only know that and if he cannot afford to feed them then how can he afford to have routine check-ups on them? Maybe Sheriff Fred Abdalla says they were all healthy, but does he have a medical license? Has he ran a heartworm test or any other test to see what may be going on inside their bodies??? He like everyone else, is basing it on outside appearances...My dog looked healthy, but wasn't..and as a responsible dog owner I took her to the vet and she had to have emergency surgery to remove her spleen that night..and if I had not taken her when I did she may not be here today. There are many resources available (if you seek them) to get free or reduced spays and neuters...As a responsible dog owner..you would do this..He can have all the awards in the world, but seriously...does that make him a responsible owner?? I love Pitbulls and if I had the money and land, i would rescue them all, but since I don't, I do what I can by volunteering my time and energy to places that do rescue them....
I just hope and pray that rescues can be found for all these dogs...
