Guard dog strikes — twice

From Niagara Gazette

Police were called to the 1600 block of Pine Avenue about 2:45 a.m. Saturday after residents there said they confronted a burglar stealing copper piping.

A resident said she had been sleeping when she awoke to the sound of sawing, waking up her boyfriend, the couple went downstairs with their 70 lb. pit bull leading the way and saw a man leaving the basement area of the building carrying a large amount of pipes.

The dog gave chase and was twice able to grab the suspect by the leg but he got away both times.

The residents told police they believe the man may have been a former tenant there.
