Falls Police Officer Shoots Dog in Self Defense

By Kate Songin, WGRZ

Police are still investigating an incident this afternoon that lead to a Niagara Falls police officer to shoot a dog. According to police, the officer was checking on an unrelated investigation at a home in the Falls when a pitbull emerged from the home and reportedly attacked the officer. The officer responded by firing 3 shots at the pitbull in an act of self defense.
The dog ran back into the home, and the SPCA was called to retrieve it. No word on the condition of the dog at this time.

  1. Saw the dog. Heard the owners' side. Heard the SPCA officer's side. Don't know what the officer had to say, but I believe this was an excessive use of force in an unnecessary situation.
