7 arrested at dogfight in Maywood

From Chicago Breaking NewsCenter

Seven people were arrested in a Maywood basement last week at the scene of a dogfight in progress, the Cook County sheriff's office said.
The arrests happened on Thursday as sheriff's animal crimes investigators were doing surveillance on a house in the 700 block of South 3rd Avenue, according to a statement from sheriff Tom Dart's office.
They were preparing to execute a search warrant on the home when they saw a man going in with a pit bull on a leash, followed by several other people.
Investigators surrounded the home and went in, the statement said. In the basement they found two pit bulls fighting. Workers from the Animal Welfare League took the dogs for veterinary care.
Jonathan Holt, 28, a resident of the home, was charged with dogfighting. Five others -- Tara Jackson, 19, Ebony Jackson, 21, Kevin Hicks, 25, Aaliyah Jackson, 18, and Andre Gaines, 24 -- were charged with attending a dogfight. All the charges are felonies. All but Hicks, a Chicago resident, live in Maywood.
Gaines was also wanted in connection with unrelated weapons possession, aggravated assault and drug charges, the statement said.
Charges were pending on a seventh person, a man who is hospitalized with an unrelated condition, the sheriff's office said.
