Dover couple are charged with possession of drugs after police find marijuana in child's playroom

By Daniel Goldberg, The Star-Ledger

A Dover couple, who police believe headed a “bustling drug distribution business,” were arrested Thursday, according to Detective Sgt. Richard Gonzalez. Police executed a search warrant at the home of Pedro Corona, 26, and his wife, Juliana Acosta, 24, after a four-week investigation.
When officers entered the second-story apartment on Hudson Street, Corona attacked Detective Louis Sperry and struck him several times in the head, Gonzalez said. Sperry is sore, but the injuries were not serious.
Police found 80 grams of marijuana and 10 grams of cocaine, according to Gonzalez.
The couple’s 3-year-old child was transported to Dover St. Clare’s as a precaution, when police discovered marijuana in the child’s playroom.
“It appeared that this area was used for ingesting illegal drugs,” Gonzalez said.
Two pit bulls and a bull terrier were also found, and animal cruelty charges are pending, said Norma Jacobs, Randolph’s animal control officer.
Acosta was charged with possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park. Bail was set at $75,000.
Corona was charged with the same, as well as aggravated assault on police, resisting arrest with force and having a false government document. Bail was set at $100,000.
Cesar Rodriguez, 23, was charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. An immigration detainer was placed on Rodriguez. Bail was set at $50,000.
