Pit bull attacked nine-year-old, hospitalized with serious arm injuries
A nine-year-old girl is hospitalized after a pit bull attacked her near her home.
The incident happened around 11:00am Thursday in the 100 block of Bethlehem Circle, near Batesburg-Leesville.
The Lexington County Sheriff's Department responded to the call, and deputies said they commanded the dog to let the girl go. When it didn't, Major Allard indicated deputies shot and killed the dog.
The girl was taken by helicopter to Palmetto Health Richland. Major Allard stated she received serious injuries to both of her arms, but they were not life-threatening.
Deputies did take a second dog into custody and are looking for a third dog. They said they don't believe either of those dogs were involved in the attack but they were with the dog that was killed at that time.
