Pit Bull mix puppy recovering at Valley Oak SPCA in Visalia from illegal ear cropping

From Visalia Times-Delta

A puppy suffering from a botched ear cropping done illegally was brought to the Valley Oak SPCA Wednesday with his mother. A concerned citizen found them running loose in Farmersville, picked them up and dropped them off at the shelter in Visalia.
The German Shepherd/Pit Bull puppy was covered in dried mud and blood, said kennel manager Lena Cooper. His left ear is partially removed in a jagged line.
The puppy is expected to recover, said shelter veterinarian Jan Breecher.
“Obviously it is cruel to do this as a home job,” she said.
Only a veterinarian can legally crop a dog’s ear in the State of California, said Tami Crawford, executive director of the VOSPCA.
