Puppy rescued from apartment dumpster

From United Press International

An Oklahoma animal group said it is looking for a new home for a puppy rescued from a dumpster by an apartment complex groundskeeper. Tiffany Shawareb, manager of Windsor Village Apartments in Oklahoma City, said a groundskeeper heard a noise coming from the dumpster and discovered the puppy inside a taped-shut cardboard box, KFOR-TV, Oklahoma City, reported Wednesday.
The Bella Foundation, an organization aimed at helping pay for veterinary care, said the canine has been temporarily adopted by Oklahoma City resident Curtis Whitener.
Whitener said the puppy, which he named Kory, shows signs of having been abused, including keeping her tail between her legs.
"She won't lift it up," he said. "It's a confidence thing. She will wag her tail, but she wags it between her legs because she's afraid to show affection. She's afraid she's going to get in trouble for that."
The foundation said Kory appears to be a German shepherd-pit bull mix or a shepherd-boxer mix.
Authorities said they have opened an animal cruelty investigation.
