Animal Control found a dead dog inside a trash dumpster Friday morning and is asking for the public's help in finding out what happened to the dog.
Sgt. Aaron Acton said the dog, a brown pitbull mix, had multiple bite wounds. It was dumped at the intersection of Avenue B and Yowell Court, wrapped in two Macy's bags and covered with a rope-tied box.
A witness reported seeing a Hispanic man in his 20s dump the dog and leaving the scene in a newer silver four-door sedan.
“We opened the box and found an 8- to 9-month-old female, fixed pitbull mix with 15 to 18 wounds,” Acton said.
He said it might not necessarily be a case of animal cruelty.
“We don't know. Maybe it was in a fight with another dog; maybe it was intentional. We want to find out what happened,” he said.
“First of all, you can't dump a dead dog in the trash, it's not allowed by law, not to mention that we found it dead with wounds,” Acton said.
“We just want to find out what happened. Any information would help.”
