Primera couple arrested after hanging, beating pit bull puppy

By Sergio Chapa, KGBT

A Primera couple is facing criminal charges after allegedly hanging and beating a pit bull puppy that they were trying to discipline for barking too much.
Primera police arrested 75-year-old Juan Francisco De Leon and 48-year-old Gloria Herrera on cruelty to animal charges.
Court records released show that neighbors saw them hang a pit bull puppy from their fence and then kick and hit it on Wednesday night.
De Leon told police that the dog had been making too much noise.
An animal control officer at the scene told police that the dog appeared to be emaciated and had skin sunken over its bones.
De Leon appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Thursday morning where he was issued a $10,000 dollar bond.
Herrera appeared before the magistrate court on Friday morning but her bond information was not immediately available.
