Deputy shoots attacking Pit Bull in Palmdale

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy shot a Pit Bull that charged him as he was getting out of his car while responding to a 911 call of a woman bitten by a Pit Bull.
According to a report in the Antelope Valley Press, an unidentified 67-year-old woman was bitten on her upper arm when she tried to stop the Pit Bull from attacking her Poodle. The woman was taken by ambulance to Palmdale Regional Medical Center, the extent of her injuries were not disclosed.
The Poodle died.
The report states that the two dogs and the woman all lived at the same house, but the Pit Bull belonged to another occupant that was not home at the time.
Neighbors say that the Pit Bull was normally friendly and it is not known why it attacked the Poodle.
The Pit Bull ran away after being shot, and was found shortly after in a yard about a block away. The dog was taken to Mission Animal Hospital in Palmdale and is expected to survive.
