Frayser man charged with animal cruelty after ailing dogs euthanized

By Scott Carroll, The Commercial Appeal

A Frayser man whose two 1-year-old dogs were euthanized due to malnourishment has been charged with cruelty to animals.
Jarvis Reid, 30, allegedly used cable cord to tie his German shepherd and pit bull to a pole in the backyard of his home in the 600 block of Marsh Avenue, leaving them in direct sunlight without food, water or shelter during May, according to a police affidavit.
The temperature was in the mid-90s when authorities found the dogs, very underweight and with visible rib cages, on May 31.
The dogs were put down shortly thereafter.
Reid posted $250 bond and was released from Shelby County Jail today.
