Jonesboro authorities are investigating after a 5-month-old puppy had to be euthanized after being dragged behind a vehicle.
Police Chief Mike Yates says the pit bull terrier pup was chained to the back of a vehicle sometime Thursday and dragged until the pads of his feet ripped away. Authorities say the dog suffered a severely scraped belly and other injuries and that his toenails were missing.
Authorities euthanized the dog Friday morning because of the severity of the injuries.
Larry Rogers, the supervisor for the Jonesboro Animal Control Department, says he doesn't know if the dog was being trained to fight or being punished or exercised.
Rogers described what happened to the dog as "pure torture" and says authorities are seeking "some kind of justice for the little fellow."
