Man arrested for choking girlfriend, beating dog with bat

From The Morning Journal

After allegedly choking his girlfriend nearly to unconsciousness, a Lorain man beat her dog with a baseball bat, according to a Lorain police report.

Mark Colon, 40, Lorain, was arrested by police who responded to the scene and saw him fleeing in a vehicle. He was charged with domestic violence, cruelty to animals and taken to Lorain City Jail.

Police went to the 1000 block of West 10th Street around 12:15 a.m. July 30 where callers said a woman was screaming for help. They found a 41-year-old Lorain woman walking down the street. She told police her boyfriend, Colon, had choked her and then beat her dog, a 6-year-old pit bull/boxer mix named Chopper, with a baseball bat.

The dog was found lying on a bed in her home bleeding from the nose and mouth, according to the report. He was taken to an emergency veterinarian.
