A man shot a pet pit bull Tuesday night, but the dog’s owner says the dog has never been violent.
The man told police he went to a home in the 700 block of North Lynn Street Tuesday to do work on his rental property, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report. While picking up trash in the back of the house, he said a pit bull charged at him.
The man unloaded three rounds from his handgun toward the dog, and he told police he believed bullets struck the pit bull twice. It’s unclear whether the dog survived the shooting.
Police spoke to the dog’s owner, who said the dog has never been aggressive and he didn’t believe it tried to attack the man. IMPD cited the owner, who admitted the dog wasn’t on a leash.
No one else was in danger of being shot as a result of the gunfire, according to the police report.
