A Fayetteville man is accused of setting fire to bushes outside his girlfriend's home and throwing her dog through a window, police said.
Martino Anthony Jones, 26, of the 4900 block of Hershey Circle, was charged Monday with first-degree arson and felonious cruelty to animals, according to an arrest warrant.
The incident happened about 2:45 a.m. on July 13 outside the residence of Ceyoshia Antionette Simpson, who lives on the 300 block of Currie Street, according to a Fayetteville police report.
She and Jones got into an argument and he left the house, the report said.
A few minutes later, she and her sister were getting ready to walk some friends home, the report said, when she heard her pit bull puppy barking, the report said.
As the women walked outside, Simpson saw flames coming from bushes in front of the residence, the report said.
Simpson and her sister managed to extinguish the flames, the report said.
Simpson then saw Jones at the side of the residence, where her dog was on a chain.
The arrest warrant said Jones grabbed the puppy by its collar and swung it in circles above his head, choking the dog.
Jones then threw the puppy through a double-paned window, causing deep cuts and at least one broken rib, the report said.
Jones' bail was set at $10,000.
