Blount County (TN) SPCA helping to shelter, find homes for Florida pets displaced by Hurricane Irma







A Blount County animal welfare group has taken in several dogs displaced in the wake of Hurricane Irma, joining with another Blount County nonprofit to find new homes for the animals.


The Blount County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals joined with Remote Area Medical to take in several dogs displaced from the Tampa, Fla., area as a result of Hurricane Irma.

Group seeks more funding, stronger punishment to help Madison County, IN animals







An organization started about a year ago to provide financial support to the Animal Protection League is shifting its focus to helping Madison County residents who can’t afford it on their own pay for spay and neutering services for their pets.

Susan Blake, founder of Ambassadors for the Care of God’s Creatures, said Saturday that all money raised by the organization will go to its Spay and Neuter Assistance Project.

After becoming 'panicked and anxious,' attorney gets permit application extension for Montreal pit bull owners







Hundreds of owners of pit bull-type dogs who received letters from the City of Montreal threatening the dogs' seizure will now have extra time to complete their requests to keep their pets.

Prominent Montreal lawyer Anne-France Goldwater was in Quebec Superior Court Monday to ask for an extension of the deadline, originally set for this month.

Shitzu allegedly leads pit bulls astray in McPherson, KS







At 8:46 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to Roosevelt Elementary School for a dog running at large. Officers impounded a male brindle pit bull.

At 8:14 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to 1000 Hospital Drive for dogs running at large. Officers impounded a brown Shitzu, a black and white pit bull mix, and a brown pit bull mix.










City of Lakewood, OH rules Charlie must be removed from city, owner vows to appeal







Jennifer Scott says she and her family bonded with a dog named Charlie from the moment they met him at the Animal Protective League in February.

Scott says the city of Lakewood initially gave the family permission to keep the dog after viewing a photo of Charlie, but later reversed that decision when an animal control officer raised questions about whether the family was in violation of Lakewood's ban on pit bulls.

Rescued pit bulls, Junebug and Rosie Rae, steal the show at Chicago's Midnight Circus







As the Chicago summer starts to roll into autumn, city parks are preparing for the circus to come to town—not the problematic big tops that have hit big trouble in recent years, but the Midnight Circus, a local troupe of performers that’s smaller in size, but still global in scope.

The Midnight Circus embodies the jubilant, over-the-top spirit of the circus. Founded in 2007 by husband and wife Chicagoans Jeff and Julie Jenkins, the circus began as part of an effort to revitalize Welles Park with a benefit show. That event grew into a pair of annual shows, which grew into an annual eight-show tour of Chicago city parks by 2013.

Charges pending against Lagentrious Watson, 44, of New Castle, PA, as abused pit bull mix recovers







New Castle police are looking for a man accused of harboring a severely abused dog of pit bull mix inside an East Side apartment.


Police Chief Bobby Salem said a local veterinary hospital reported that the dog's throat had been slit open and it had a broken jaw, a chipped tooth and other apparent injuries.

Las Vegas teenager accused of beating his pit bull puppy to death for chewing shoes







A Las Vegas teenager was accused Monday of beating his puppy to death over chewed shoes. The Nye County Sheriff’s Office charged a 17-year-old boy with animal cruelty after they responded to a call at a Pahrump, Nevada home Monday afternoon.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., a police officer arrived to assist an Animal Control officer at the home, reported NBC-affiliate KSNV Thursday.

Eleven pit bulls removed from filthy 1-bedroom apartment in Bayonne, NJ







Nearly a dozen pit bulls were found living in deplorable conditions inside a one-bedroom apartment in Bayonne, and now their owner is facing animal cruelty charges.


The dogs were found over the weekend inside the apartment located on Kennedy Boulevard near 23rd Street.

Springfield, MO city council to vote on pit bull ban in September







A controversial plan to ban new pit bulls in the city limits is headed toward a city council vote. Pit bull owners, meantime, are expressing fear for their animals.


"Any pit bull owner that you know will say the same thing. and that is that they are all babies," laughed Emily Park, who owns a young pit bull named Willow.

Malnourished pit bull confiscated from owner faces long road to recovery







Last week, a neglected pit bull was confiscated from its owner in order to receive immediate medical attention. After being transported to the Pearl River County SPCA, multiple employees at the shelter gave the dog an unfavorable chance of survival.


However, with the help of the Picayune Veterinary Clinic, the pit bull is recovering, but still has a long road before she can make a full recovery.

Meet Kara, Colorado's Only Law-Enforcing, Drug-Detecting Pit Bull
